Clinical Psychological Services
At HealthAction we provide services for a range of mental
health issues including depression, bipolar disorder,
anxiety and phobias, stress management, behavioural problems,
and relationship difficulties. Both individual sessions and
group programs are available.
Psychologists at HealthAction utilise evidence-based practice
approaches including cognitive behaviour therapy to address
a range of life difficulties. Cognitive behaviour therapy
along with general counselling is an effective approach to
treating a range of mental health issues and psychological
problems related to physical health.
Cognitive behaviour therapy, often referred
to as CBT, is a combination of cognitive therapy, which examines
unwanted thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs and behavioural
therapy, which focuses on behaviour in response to those thoughts.
Psychologists at HealthAction skilfully combine cognitive
therapy and behavioural therapy to provide a very powerful
method of addressing a wide range of emotional and behavioural
problems in children, adolescents and adults. CBT is an evidenced-based
therapy with extensive research showing that it is highly
effective. It is an approach that can be tailored to suit
most people’s needs.
Counselling is about relating the skills
and knowledge of personal and interpersonal dynamics to the
therapy context. At HealthAction professionals use counselling
to help clients understand how problems are impacting on their
lives and to develop skills to help them to better deal with
these problems and promote positive outcomes.
Adult and child assessments are conducted
by qualified psychologists at HealthAction including intelligence
and general ability testing, assessment for different mental
and developmental disorders including anxiety disorders, autism
and Asperger’s syndrome. These assessments may be conducted
when requested by an employer, by the client, or by a school.
